John Acosta, a Bronx, New York native, hails from a musical lineage deeply rooted in Latin jazz. His father, Juan Acosta, a Cuban percussionist, toured with legends like Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. In California, John embarked on a multifaceted music career, serving as a composer, guitarist, producer, and engineer for renowned labels such as Warner Brothers, DreamWorks, Geffen, BMG, Elektra, and Capitol Records.
John’s musical journey included the group Forest for the Trees, which soared to #18 on the Billboard Modern Rock charts. Collaborating with artists like Beck and achieving a UK top-ten hit with 1000 Clowns added to his eclectic musical portfolio. Later on he became deeply involved in advocating for musicians’ rights through his role in AFM Local 47.
John Acosta assumed the presidency of AFM Local 47 emphasizing his dedication to the musician community. Currently, he continues to serve as an International Executive Board member of the AFM and holds the position of President on the Music Fund of Los Angeles Board of Directors.
In addition John is the driving force behind Sonic Poncho, a music production company based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Los Angeles, California. Sonic Poncho is dedicated to producing music for both musical artists and film and TV, collaborating with industry giants like Warner Brothers, Sony, Universal, Netflix, and Amazon.
